Paddle Canada National Canoeing Program
Canoe Instruction
Uncommonly Grand provides high quality outdoor experiences. We respect and care for the water and land, and teach ethical outdoor adventure practices. The Grand River is our tool for doing so, and for connecting people to their environment.
Our Canoe Instructor-Trainer has 26 years experience and can instruct & certify paddlers from beginners/basic skills through training & certifying Paddle Canada Canoe Instructors. He is certified in the Paddle Canada National Canoeing Program and offers local instruction in 4 levels:
Lake Canoe: An introductory course with emphasis on boat control and the necessary skills to be safe and have fun on the water. Features Basic Skills, Introductory Level, and Intermediate Level courses.
Style Canoe: Also known as solo canoeing, this is quiet water solo paddling instruction in which the canoe is moved over the water in graceful and free flowing motions.
Moving Water Canoe: This instruction offers students the chance to increase their knowledge and skill level with respect to whitewater canoeing. Here the focus is on small currents to more challenging whitewater such as Class III rapids, and these clinics are non-certification courses.
Big Canoe: The Paddle Canada Big Canoe Program provides the skill and knowledge for both paddlers and leaders in safe Big Canoe Paddling (recognized as any canoe being paddled by 4 or more people.)
Kayak Instruction
Our kayak instructor has 28 years experience doing paddling clinics on the Grand River and 15 years in sea kayaking at Long Point Bay World Biosphere. He offers instruction in basic skills and intermediate level clinics, which are non-certification courses.
