A Glamping Stay at Chiefswood Park

Victoria Day long weekend is almost upon us, and with that comes the annual launch of Chiefswood Park’s most recent accommodation option: Glamping! A seasonal setup on the lower grounds of the Park, along the Grand River and among the trees at Chiefswood National Historic Site, these little huts pack a big punch in terms of privacy and a next-level stay.

Uncommonly Grand

Inspired by the log cabin design on the top grounds, the glamping units are off grid, with the addition of solar panels for light at night or charging your phone. Each site has its own picnic table, private fire pit, and Muskoka chairs to relax in while you roast marshmallows or sip on something smooth to close a beautiful night beneath the stars.

A step-up from tent camping, these little numbers are uniquely designed and finished in a miniature log cabin style, complete with 4 windows for ample light, a folding bistro table and two chairs, a Murphy bed with a full mattress that sleeps two comfortably, and comfy-yet-cool white linens to set off the all-wood interiors. They’re each completed with their own covered porches which are perfect for sitting out and having your morning coffee while you watch the sunrise. And the only things you’ll need to bring to enjoy your glamping stay will be your food, cookware (if you’re doing more than roasting hotdogs,) clothing and toiletries.

Like the year-round cabin stays, these nature-inspired seasonal park accommodations provide a small-budget option for outdoor enthusiasts who don’t wish to “rough-it” one hundred percent on their own. The glamping huts have ample 20’ by 20’ (approximate) sites providing their own authentic brand of Park experience. Two are located directly on the bank, providing guests with a beautiful view of the Grand River not just at sunrise but throughout the entire stay, with ducks, geese, and good fishing just a few steps from the front door! Six more are located within the tall trees of this part of the Carolinian Forest region, for which the Park and the Chiefswood National Historic Site are known for black walnut, basswood, oak, and hickory trees. The shade from this canopy is not only beautiful, but a blessing when the summer heat moves in, providing a reprieve from high temperatures for the animals and birds the Park is also home to.

Take note that due to their off-grid design, there is no additional heat nor air conditioning options when glamping. And porta potty and hand washing facilities are just a short walk from each. Those who value the concept of camping with a few luxuries will appreciate the ability to “get away from it all” without having to worry about rain, a roof over their head, nor the little accoutrements that make a stay here truly what it is. Access to full-service washrooms and shower facilities is available on the top grounds, and if you happen to forget some of the snacks, drinks, or camping needs of your company, the Park Store is open throughout the glamping season from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

To ensure your stay is enjoyed to the utmost, there’s also plenty to do! Chiefswood Park has a variety of free as well as pay-per-use amenities including a splash pad for the younger ones, canoe, kayak, and SUP board rentals, mini-putt, as well as archery and special event programming. But, if a quiet stay among the trees or along the river by yourself, with a partner, or with friends or family speaks to you, then this is the place to experience it. Take advantage of the close proximity to the local nature trail, Friday night racing at Ohsweken Speedway, or even the upcoming summer outdoor movie series at the park itself (scheduled for Thursday evenings in 2023!) Then unwind at your fire or on the porch, sampling some exquisite, locally prepared charcuterie, sipping something specially made for a night like this, and letting your cares melt away. Visit the link available here for online booking or call Chiefswood Park for more details directly at (519) 752-3969. The glamping season launches at the end of May and closes in October annually, so don’t miss out!
